Failed to connect when updating CR1000 operating system

Eliz Mar 29, 2019 05:17 PM

I have been trying to update the operating system of a CR1000 datalogger to CR1000.Std.32.03. I am using Loggernet, and followed the instructions given in the "Send OS" tab of Device Configuration Utility, including the steps to remove and apply power to the device, but repeatedly got an error message saying there had been a failure to connect to the device. I have a direct connection to the data logger via a couple of MD485 multidrop interfaces, which are connected to the PC and datalogger as described in the MD485 manual. I know that I have some connection to the datalogger as data is continually being collected and stored on the PC.

What could be the reason for being unable to connect when sending the new OS?

The is download protocol for the cr1000 works only with the RS232 port.  If you want to send the OS via the link that you are using, you will need to use the send program button in the logger control panel of devconfig ( when connected).

Thanks for getting back to me. I tried this method and am still having problems with connection. When finding the datalogger from Device Configuration Utility I get a message saying "No repsonse from the data logger". This message appears after about a minute of trying to connect. Any ideas why this might be and how to fix it?

It sounds like you are trying to click on the "Connect" button before you send the operating system.  This should not be necessary and you may be gettng the failure that you are reporting because the current datalogger settings have configured the baud rate for the RS-232 port to a fixed baud rate rather than one of the automatic baud rate settings.

If you send the operating system to the datalogger by using the "Send OS" tab BEFORE you connect, the port baud rate setting should not matter because the protocol used to send the OS works at a lower level and uses a fixed 115200 baud rate value.

My initial problem was not being able to send the operating system using the "Send OS" tab so I don't think I would be able to do this. Apologies if I'm just misunderstanding, would you be able to explain a little more?
