Hi there,
I look after an eddy covariance station based on a CR3000 data logger. It collects raw data at 10Hz and stores these data on a 2GB CF memory card lumped in daily files of around 56mb.
I was advised that best practice is to download the high frequecy data manually in the field. The station does have a modem and I download processed flux data on a daily basis from the office.
Due to COVID-19 lockdown in my country, we're unable to visit the station for a manual download which means the card will fill up by 2 May 2020 and we will lose data.
I would like to know if anyone is currently downloading high frequency data remotely and if so, whether you have any advice for me. Is there anything I should try or keep in mind if I want to try downloading the data? Or should I just accept that we'll lose data?
Any advice is very welcome.
Thanks
The modem connection might not be fast enough to keep up, but you should be able to get some of the data files.
In Setup of Loggernet, the station will have a File Retrieval tab. You can enable the file retrieval there. Use a file pattern of *.dat (or whatever the data file extension is in your case). I often use the Delete Files After Retrieval option. That would free up space by removing files you already collected.
File transfer with FTP is more efficient than the file retrieval in Loggernet, but would probably require changing settings in the datalogger. It would be safest to try the Loggernet file retrieval first.
