Hi Campbell team, I'm attempting to connect my laptop to a CR1000 but having no success. Others have been able to using their laptops, but when I attempt to communicate using the PC200W software, the communication test fails. Sometimes it gives me a range of errors, other times it gives me no errors at all. What's my best course of action here?
Cheers
Ben
Older laptops have a 9-pin serial port. With the correct cable, you connect from that port on the laptop to the RS232 port on the CR1000. Most folks these days use a "USB to serial" conversion cable. You plug it into a USB port on the laptop and then it plugs in to the RS232 port on the CR1000. Which way are you doing this ? Did you obtain the "USB to serial" cable from Campbell Scientific recently ? If you have a relatively new cable and it is connected properly, you can first use the Device Configuration Utility (called DevConfig for short) to connect to the datalogger. The CR1000 must be separately powered with a 12V source (i.e. separate from the USB cable). Once you can connect in DevConfig and see the PakBus port, that simplifies the process of connecting in PC200W. Some screenshots or descriptions of the errors you see might be helpful. Also, it might not be a bad idea to contact your local Campbell support person. They can probably get you going in less than 15 minutes.
