I'm trying to use RUT955 SR-232 interface to program the CR1000 data logger connected to it.
The RUT955 gets internet access from home modem connection via WAN port. I have a laptop connected to the LAN port of RUT955 and a data logger connected via SR-232 via null model cable. The laptop is running LoggerNet which is used to configure the logger. The topology can be seen here.
The data logger is an older model and requires a special module to get network access. Because I couldn't get my hands on one I'm trying to set up a network access via serial port as it's done here. The config for the serial port is here.
I've set the RUT955 to act as server since I want to initiate the connection from the laptop. When I try to connect to the logger from LoggerNet with the ip 192.168.1.1:50000 I keep receiving the error about unreachable destination.
I'm not sure what's causing this as I'm able to ping the router to laptop and laptop to router, and the router is able to ping google and other sites, so it has internet access. Do I need port forwarding for this? If I do where to I forward to as data logger doesn't have an IP address.
I appreciate the help.
You might not need the null modem cable. You might just need a regulalar RS-232 cable between the RUT955 and the CR1000 datalogger as the RUT955 might be acting like a regular PC for RS-232. The reason we put null modem cables between the RV50(X) and the datalogger is both the datalogger and RV50(X) RS232 ports are meant to be connected to the PC's RS232 port. So when connect a datalogger to the RV50(X), we have to cross the TX/RX pins so they can talk to each other. That is what the NULL MODEM Cable does. It crosses those TX/RX pins. I don't think this is needed between the RUT955 and the datalogger. Just a regular RS232 cable should do the trick.
According to your RUT955 RS232 setup image the RS232-TCP/IP-port the RUT955 reacts to is on :6785 and not :50000?
I could test this with a CR3000 only, but this works and should also do for a CR1000:
RS232 settings in RUT955 (server/router itself is on 192.168.1.1):
* 115200 baud, 8-N-1, no flow control, Serial type: Over IP, Protcol:TCP, Mode:Server, TCP Port: 50000 (nothing else, besides enabling it)
Com Port settings CR3000:
* RS-232, 115200 Auto, beacon intval: 30, verif intval 300, no Neighbors
Device Config Utility settings:
* Connection type: IP, IP: 192.168.1.1:50000
Cable needs to be a Cross-Over-cable (NULL MODEM), 1:1 didn't work for me and also needed a gender changer to even physically plug it in.
@Nico Thanks so much. It worked.
Hello.
I am trying to use the teltonika TRB142 RS232-port for connecting to CR1000.
I have setup TRB142 & CR1000 as above Nico adviced (cable wiring) , and is working fine.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
RS232 settings in RUT955 (server/router itself is on 192.168.2.1):
* 115200 baud, 8-N-1, no flow control, Serial type: Over IP, Protcol:TCP, Mode:Server, TCP Port: 50000 (nothing else, besides enabling it)
Com Port settings CR1000:
* RS-232, 115200 Auto, beacon intval: 30, verif intval 300, no Neighbors
Device Config Utility settings:
* Connection type: IP, IP: 192.168.2.1:50000
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What i need, is to use it with mobile simm card, for remote connection to CR1000.
So i use a simm card with Public Static IP (62.74.xxx.xxxx).
I have check the TRB142 Mobile IP address: (Status, Overview, MOB1S1A1, Type:mobile, IP address: 62.74.xxx.xxx/32)
Setup as previous (Nico adviced)
Except: Device Config Utility settings:
* Connection type: IP, IP: 62.74.xxx.xxx:50000
BUT ... no connection at all.
Any help would be greatfull
