raingauge over catch

Shanks.J May 24, 2022 03:38 AM

Hi there,
i am having issues with rain gauge over catch with simple tipping bucket rain gauge, tb3 0.5mm

i am measuring rainfall in one of the wettest places in the world so when the rain falls it is very heavy and likely creates a constant flow though the gauge. it is obvious that the gauge is over catching, and i think it is flipping from one side to the other before filling completely. (75mm in 10minutes! i don't think so)

when looing at the data it is quite clear that i has one real tip followed by 2 false tips as it bounces back from the original tip.
im looking to filter these out some how within the pulse count command. the cr6 manual speaks of the datalogger "automatically filters bounce" but im wondering if there is anyway to make this stronger.
thanks in advance for your help
Jackson

looking for something that says if second tip occurs within 1 sec then dont count it

a capacitance could cancel this problem, while also maintaining the resistance, to avoid high currents that damage the contact itself. The value of the capacity could be chosen on the basis of the maximum intensity of rain that you can ever expect at the measurement site or even only on the basis of the maximum measurable intensity, depending on the instrumental specifications of the rain gauge. An electronic friend helps you easily.

The table that run fast and canceling counts greater than 1 could also solve, but with a waste of resources and power in the logger.
